Steering shaft on a 917270821?

How do I remove the steering shaft on a Craftsman tractor? The end piece is broken and the shaft needs to be replaced but I can't get it out of the piece it goes into.

drop the deck, remove battery and trey. take clip off of shaft holding steering gears and the nylon plastic peice union which they call the support shaft. also i took off the clip holding linkage going to wheels. the u bracket is bolted from the botton- 4 bolts, thats why you have to drop the deck. it will all come out then. the steering shaft has a torx head bolt in the end of the shaft you can reach now its loose. they used loctite at the factory so it will be tight.
its a shame that the support shaft is nylon when the gears are steel. mine is totally worn out. i am going to sleeve mine with an oilite bushing, i have small machine shop to do this in. i suggest you look at that part while it all apart. i dont want to ever do this again, its kind of a pain. good luck
