homelite dies when cutting?

the saw starts fine but as soon as i start cutting a log it dies.the saw is a home lite x2

This is a sign of fuel starvation, and the only real way to clear it is to remove the carburettor and carefully dismantle it for cleaning - preferably with compressed air and an aerosol carb cleaner. Definitely not with cloths!
