making space on D drive?

HOw can I make space on D drive. All folders and programmes are necessary. How do I identify ones I can delete? Only one or two programmes on it that I put on that have always been there since bought pc in 1999. Dell Dimension 500

If everything on the drive is necessary then the answer is you can't. I suggest you buy a new drive.
