mine stopped working half way through cycle. i followed instructions to close it manually. tried everything to get it working, no luck. went to main dealer in manchester uk, diagnostic cost £60, it was a miss-aligned micro switch, they repaired it with no extra charge other than the £60 diagnostic charge.
well done manchester renault dealers.. and thanks.
if you go to other garages you may pay for trial and error and still not get it fixed. but it's worth trying everything suggested on the internet as mine was just a micro-switch but i didn't spot it.

i have a 2003 renault megane and the roof wont go down would be the switch

I have just been looking at the same problem on roof,I have found that if you pull up the rear panel by hand this lets you get accses to the locking unit for this lid you will find that the lock has not fully traveled all the way up as to make contact with the 2 switches that lets the rest of the roof operation continues. So starting with opening the roof ,unlock the Handel at the front of the roof , push back the roof till it's clear , get out car & lift the panel forward of the boot, (you can get ahold of the panel by pushing your hand down between the back of the seat top, lift the lid far enough to let you pull up the black locking units ( the lock is in the center of the compartment . It just has to move about 10mm. This will then activate both micro switches go back to control switch in car and continue the operation to open roof. ( the problem with the roof is this mechanism). I am planing to replace the small spring that works the unit So fingers crossed

Hi my megane
1 roof wasn't working when I bought it.read the Internet and unlocked the roof at the front pressed the button and the roof lid opened a little...turned the time shaped key on the side of the pump then physically pulled the roof back into the compartment and pressed the button for the lid to shut.problem is I've done everything in reverse and the roof is stuck in a variety position with the lid up. It will neither go up nor down now ...frustrating .I've got work tomorrow and now can't use my car ! Someone please please help...nb I don't have a workshop manual either... cheers max.

Just had the same problem on my 2000 W reg Megane Cabrio, pressed the roof button and just got a faint bleeping from the rear.
I had a little play with the microswitch on the left rear, no good. Disconnected the large multiplug with the big red & black wires, squirted some WD-40 on to the contacts, re-connected and bingo!
All lovely jubbly now, just need some sun and we're smokin!

do window regulators have anything to do with my roof not working renault megane coupe .

julieryan, March 2012
we turned our engine off while putting up our renault megane roof and it would not work just beep. we had a friend look at it today who has fixed it. he lifted up the part where the roof folds into, with engine running.there is a clip in the middle where the two parts would shut this section. just under this clip there is some springs, just try pushing and pulling the mechanisms slightly. this worked for us first time. i really hope this will help someone.

Just fixed my roof myself. I had the common problem that the roof section would work but the karman cover would not open just beep. I opened the roof manualy then undid the 2 nuts holding the seats in. This gives access to the lock, 4 bolts holding this and then, working from the pasanger side as the cables run that way, look to see if the manual release section is located in the main central release,( I know it sounds complecated but with the lock in your hand you will see what I mean!) There is a worm screw that over extends when the manual release cord is pulled and the motor is switched on. You have to move the worm screw back a few turns. I did this by pushing out the pin that hold the srew through the motor, undoing the 2 grub screws that hold the motor and then turning the motor on the screw, being careful not to twist and break the wiring. Again it sound complecated because I am not great with words but you will see what I mean. Once I had relocated the manual release and put it all back together my roof worked perfect. I hope you can follow this. Took me 40 mins total.

Have a look at this from the renault forum, followed these instructions today and it took about 15 mins to get the roof working again :)

Doghouse, September 2010
Does anyone know where you can get the hydraulic motor repaired. The roof on my Megane won't open and the garage say that there is not enough pressure in the unit to operate the hydraulics. The oil level was and is ok, A replacement hydraulic motor from Renault is £1,300 !!

Tony, September 2010
Can anyone tell me where the Pump/Motor for the roof is located, and how to get to it.

Dave, July 2010
I had this problem earlier today roof was down and couldn't get it to go back up! I put the roof back up manually as shown in the manual put every back the way it should be for electical use and gone out later this evening to see if it worked electrically and it does! Hooray!

Sabrina, June 2010
hi
i have a renault the second year. apparently you have to take your roof down at least once a week all year around or else the roof get's stuck and roof angine gets stuck.
the garage said it doesn't matter that the fluids are low.
the microchip was broken inside the roofengine.
they fixed it,wanted 450£ and after a week again not working.
now i'm here in net and finding things to sort this out on my own as the summer ahead and roof not working- disgusting!

moss, May 2010
I've got a 2002 megane convertable. I suddenly found the roof wont open, just beeps. So checked fluid levels in the boot on the left which seemed fine, opened and shut it manually to try and sort it. Tried everything on the forum sites, no joy. Looking around the roof looking for a problem I found a small microswitch (a small black block with wires) on the rear left corner which had come out its holder. Clicked it back in bingo ;)

Mark The Spark, April 2010

my bleeping noise has stopped and the roof will not go up or down can anybody help please

paddy, February 2010
just had the same problem with mine, here's what the problem was, the hydrolic fluid had gone bellow the min level indicator because of a slight leak to the ram, the reservoir is located in the back N/S boot. refill the the reservoir (Halfords do the hydrolic fluid for them) then you need to re-set the roof mecanism, after opening and closeing the back part of the car where the roof goes manually, and trying the switch a few times to reset the locking device with the micro switches, I managed to do it without spending too much cash. hope this helps anyone with roof trouble. -

ROB J, February 2010
You have to manually lift the roof half way first then use the button.

steve, September 2009
my car renault megane has a handle u need to turn then push the roof up then press the button, it makes the beeping sound if you havent turned the handle

sam, September 2009
anyone know wat fuild is used on a t reg renault megane convertible to open and close roof as mine is low and have no manual for the car ?? anyone??

donna, August 2009
same problem - gets half way down the beeps - renault say it is hydraulics - could cost up to £800

o, July 2009
I have got this problem too, also with a 1998 renault mrgane. the piston on the left which pushes up the compartnemt where the roof is kept is leaking hydrolic fluid. I did manage to get the roof back up in the end but i will need it fixing, i took it to a local garage which repars convertible roofs and they said the pipes inside the piston however theryre yet to give me a quote, if i knew then name of the part i would try to get it myself :(

kirsty, June 2009
if your roof wont go up or down the most common fault is a split impeller inside the pump which means you get no pressure to work the hydraulic rams this is very common i am trying to trace where to get spares for these pumps will let you all know when i locate them

james b, May 2009
Hi
I had the same problem with my Megane when i brought it with a few hours of playing around i found it to be one of the micro switches. It was the one that was on the roof itself on passanger side. I by passed this rather than replace it. It now works fine, but you no longer get the beeb when you open the front of it that is all this switch does. Hope i have helped any one else with this problem.

Grant Beeny, May 2009
put the handbrake on then try the roof again

downer, February 2009
I had the same problem with my Megane. With a bit of investigation I found that 1 of the 4 solenoids mounted on top of the pump had no continuity, I took the solenoid apart and found that the coil wire was broken so I unwound the wire by 1 wined and soldered it back on. Touch wood I haven’t had a problem since.

Alex Barden, February 2009
Hi I also have the same problem when I turn on the engine I get the bleaping noice - its by the passenger window on the passenger side inside the car. Can you advise a: how I check the fluid levels te see if any is spurting out and b: the part I would need for my local garage to fix it rather than taking it to renault. I have spoken with renault and they have said they dont know what the problem is typical lol

Your help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Colin

Colin Winstone, September 2008
Very often this is caused by a drop of pressure, check the pipes for a small leak. It would be spurting out, in a tight jet.

Steve, September 2008
hey i had the same problem basically ur screwed! the part that makes the hood move is broke. pretty common in meganes around this year. the part tht needs replacing is no longer sold by renault so ur pretty much searchin for one of another write of meganee from the scrap yard. i took mine to the renault garage. they had it 4 weeks changed god knows how many parrts and wanted to charge me £700 even though they hadnt fixed my problem. eventually i got them down to £400 but it still didnt fix my problem. sorry for the bad news.

sam, August 2008
I have an s reg left it out with the roof down late at night and it stuck...put loads of wd40 on it and I pressed the button while a mate pulled up the road..instead of putting it up take it down again

rossie, August 2008
Turned off engine in mid opening of the hood and now have to open & close by hand, also get the beeping sound. can any one help

Mike

Mike, July 2008
pull the bit that the roof goes under and get some one to press button.

steve, July 2008
I have the same problem, did you get any help?

Matz, May 2008
sorry thats the motor for the hood in the boot of the car not the engine :S

bjumper, May 2008
hey guys that happened to mine a year or so ago and i took it to the garage who said the motor had snuffed. they did charge me a lot and they didnt inspire me with confidence even if they wer a renault garage so its worth going to an independant garage and get an estimate, mine cost around 200 to fix the damn thing.

bjumper, May 2008
Hee, was worth checking! Well, I've got the same problem - except that the fluid was just under the minimum level. So I filled it up, but now the roof STILL won't open, rang Renault & they reckon that they need to keep it for a WEEK just to look at it - apparently it's a huge job? Sorry, can't help :(

Hanna, May 2008
lol, im not that dumb ya ive tried all that and still no action, any other suggestions?

bradley, May 2008
At the risk of sounding dumb, have you checked that A - you're pressing the button the right way & B - your handbrake is up? Also once you undo the clasps, you need to push it up a way before it will take itself any further...
