white smoke?

my laguna is losing power and there are clouds of white smoke billiowing from the exhaust! why.

Petrol engine? White smoke is usually water vapour - perfectly normal when the engine is cold, but usually a sign of head gasket problems if it continues...check that the coolant level hasn't dropped.
