My cousin has a kenmore 11020722990 washer that eill not drain. The motor will acitivate for about 5 sec. and then kicks out. The motor gets prtty warm during that period. She is a single mom also, and I am pretty good at troubleshooting, but I need alittle help on this one. the shaft turns on the motor during that 5 sec. time, but the agitator appears to be in a bind or the linkage is disingaged or something. Help Please!

Hope you get that washer fixed by now, just read your post, basically I think your gearing (transmission) in your washer is going out, cause overheating of motor then it will shut off.

Did you also smell burnt ?

Motor may not be perfectly good anymore if this happened a few times.

Unless you are determined to fix it, I was told when my Kenmore washer does that, is to buy a new one, as the repair shop said it's too involved to repair (for normal consumer).

The repair shop recommended to replace: 1. transmission, 2. motor, 3. the coupling (while you had it all open).

If it sounds too complicated already, then you should buy a replacement washer.
