Hope you get that washer fixed by now, just read your post, basically I think your gearing (transmission) in your washer is going out, cause overheating of motor then it will shut off.
Did you also smell burnt ?
Motor may not be perfectly good anymore if this happened a few times.
Unless you are determined to fix it, I was told when my Kenmore washer does that, is to buy a new one, as the repair shop said it's too involved to repair (for normal consumer).
The repair shop recommended to replace: 1. transmission, 2. motor, 3. the coupling (while you had it all open).
If it sounds too complicated already, then you should buy a replacement washer.
