Mountfield SP470 Starting Cable locked?

The Starting cable on my lawnmower had become locked/stuck and i cannot free it. is there a release button that will allow access to the cable?

Marnie - did you get any joy with this (I have the same problem) . My starting cable is jammed, and on the few occassions I have got it released, there is no traction to get the engine started (cable just pulls free with no resistance).
