how do i remove the cylinder head of a nissan micra?

I need to know if its necessary to remove the engine from the car, or if I can replace the head gasket with the engine in.

The job can be done with the engine in place...the K10 micra has a timing belt, the K11 has a timing chain - which naturally hinders progress!
