Canon BJC3000 Won't print black?

Colours OK.Will not print black under any circumstances.I've even resorted to gently inserting a fine wire into the top of the print head nozzles as a last resort and they are clear. New correct part number black ink tank in place. Printer goes through it's actions but paper comes out with no text printed.
Any advice before I discard the printer for a new one?

Replace the print head. The ink is corrosive over time (therein lies the scam). Don't insert anything in the nozzles, even a hair is too big for the holes. Ink tanks are separate to print head, which makes Canon easier to service.
