How do I fix my 1980 yamaha special?

My 1980 yamaha special 850cc will start up and run but when I pull the throttle back it dies, what might be the problem and how do I fix it.

Does your bike have a set of points? not a CDI ignition.
If it has points the problem could be down to poor spark,the condenser could not giving a good spark.
the bike could be over fueling, could be a choke problem a carb float problem .
