HOTPOINT WD860 BURNT HOLES IN CLOTHES?

when washing cycle ended (not using dryer) i noticed holes burnt into my clothes and pieces of what looked like white ceramic tube, broken into bits about 1/2 inch long by 1/4 inch thick, and blackened on outside.these were inside the drum and i assume these burnt the clothes. i have used the washer again (empty) on 60deg to see if it still heats the water, it does, although two more bits of ceramic were there in the drum again, therefore i assume it is not the element but i have not tried the dryer as then i might get the dreaded fault code F13. Could it be the dryer element ? if so can anyone give me a part number, my husband is competent at mending electrics.

RE Hotpoint burning holes in clothes!
I have a 1 year old Hotpoint 440 which has also burnt holes in the clothes, and I also found pieces of burnt ceramic type tubing in the drum. I have no idea of why but it seems to be rare, only 3 or 4 reports on the web, mostly involving Hotpoint.

Luckily mine is still insured but I expect I can never get the value of the clothes back; also it fused all the electrics in the room!
