problem with sidelights FORD ESCORT 16v DOHC 1.6 ZETEC 1996?

The problem is that the sidelights, dashboard light and number plate light will not work. Also the brake lights will not come on with the sidelights or headlights. I have checked the fuses and replaced the bulbs but still no joy. The front headlights will work on normal and full beam.

Please if anyone can help me I would be very greatful. I need my car as I'm disabled.
Thanks in advance, James.

Hi there your headlight switch is faulty. You have to carefully pull the end off the stalk, you will need a very thin terminal screwdriver to prise it off(there is two spring locators inside be carefull not to lose them as they need to go back in).
Once the end cap is off you will see a little metal contact on the stalk, you have to bend them together slightly while doing this the lights usually flicker but this is normal.
Once you have done this you will have to place the spring locators back on the stalk then replace the end cap over them, usually you will have to turn the end cap so that it is on sidelights position.Once the cap is back on try the lights again and they should now work.
Hope this helps
