How can I fix my Ford Ka car from over revving?

When I push my clutch in to change gear, the engine really over revvs. I have already changed the idle control valve but this hasn't helped. It is a W reg Ford Ka. Any ideas please??

I had the same problem and since having a new throttle position sensor fitted the fault has gone away. To test if this is the problem when you next get the over revving problem - pull over and stop the engine - wait a few mins and then restart - it should be fine. This is a useful hint I picked up on the internet by another over revver!

Hi Louise, what is always worth a try on such faults is to gain access to the air intake and spray clean the area around the butterfly valve with carb cleaner.
Fingers crossed.
Regards Mark.
