Hi

Only came on here for a look next thing I know I am answering reasonable questions.

Your answer; possible many faults, without examination would look towards the obvious, heat and expansion.

Meaning the heater element had grown in such a way or form touched the Earth path.

Now my question is was it the RCD or the breaker, very important at this stage. If it was the RCD you have a fault on the appliance however if it was the breaker you may be overloading it.
