faulty bearings?

My Servis m36160w 1600 spin washing machine is four years old and this is the 3rd time I have had to get the engineer out to replace them they were replaced july 2007 and they are away again good thing it is still under guarantee till 2009. Could it be faulty. my machine before this one never needed bearings changed ever. The worst part is the company won't do it in the house they say it must go to there workshop everytime and I am left without for about a week But my sisters ariston went last week same problem and was repaired at home so whats the difference.

the bearing seal for this bearing set is now listed as obsolete . also i have seen a number of machines where the shaft nut when tightened fully still allowed play in the bearing housing. i have seen bearings sliding in the housing, suggesting poor tolerances in machining the castings. if i were you i would insist on a new drum as well

Hi Michele

Servis washing machines originally came from Darlaston in the West Midlands, they were taken over from an Italian company called Merloni and that is what your appliance is.

Understanding your problem I fail to understand why they have to take it away and why the fail to carry out an effective repair.

It is very well changing the bearings over and over again however the drum support may not have been changed giving rise to the original fault; as it is still under a guarantee my advice is to complain the repairers have failed you and you expect the outer drum and inner drum including drum support be replaced.

Off the record you must consider at any time you may have overloaded the appliance which does have an effect on the outcome.
