i have a quantum 35 on a bike and it will not tick over nice and has flat spots . its been cleaned new gaskets and rebuilt and cannot get it to run smoothly. would removing the governor bar to the carb do anything

Empty the gas tank and clean it throughly especially the screen filter in the bottom. Sounds like as soon as the mower starts sucking gas through the screen it could be getting plugged-up from debris in the tank. When there is no sucktion the debris floats away from the screen.

I too have a bolens/mtd push mower with the quantums b&s engine & it has the same problem. Had mine 2 months, use it sparingly, on about the 3rd tank of gas it stated doing the same thing. Wish it wasn't too late to just take this junk back. I'm sure the warranty shops are packed with these. Very disappointed in this b&s engine. No excuse for such poor reliability.

Carb definitely needs a THOROUGH disassembly and THOROUGH CLEANING. Leaving these engines setting for over a couple months without running ALL the gas through them will gum them up faster than any other engine I've had. A cheap inline filter helps a lot, too.

Time for a thorough carburettor clean, Ron. Not to difficult on these, just don't use any rags when doing so....use a proper carb cleaner from an aerosol and compressed air if you can to clear things out. The Quantum's also had dodgy fuel taps too.
