I have a 98 citroen saxo, it has developed a knocking noise fronm nearside front wheel when going right mainly cornering? bearing has been checked, could it be driveshaft and is this a big job how much would i expect to pay? hate going to garages dont want to get ripped off cause im a woman!!

had the same problem for the last few weeks' replaced cvs checked bearings and after all this it turned out to be my right steering column had a abit ov play in it which caused the knocking and slight wheel vibration' u could call it wear and tear but have been told unless im planning on keeping the car for years 3-4 not to worry as it is an extemely common problem for saxos. Best way to check is put ure steering on full lock right and move the right wheel back and forth if u can hear even a slight clicking its your steering column' best solution is to crank up your stero :)

The way you've described the noise is exacly the same as mine. . I dont know anything about cars but my dad reckons it could be the bush on the anti role bar at the front?? Anyone no anything about how to sort that if it is. Thanks.

I've had the same problem all the time I've had my saxo. A few years ago I replaced the driveshaft and CV joints and within a week or two it was back. Advice from my current garage is to live with it, as it is a common fault and will last for ages making this noise, mine has been like this for 4 years now and hasn't got any worse or broke yet, touch wood!!!

I have the same problem, sorry to take the spotlight off you lisa lol, but yeh, when i turn the steering wheel 90 degrees left, i feel and hear a grumble, bumpy, knocking noise....ive been told it may be the cv joint, but, im clueless to this soooo......f**k it, ill just sell the car, hoping no one notices, ill keep taking them right on the test drive lol..haha...ssshhhh, dont buy a saxo from walsall LMAO

This happened to me, i had the complete driveshaft changed, cost me around 140 quid, after this it kept knocking though, turned out at a specific angle my alloys would be scraping the suspension arm, this can happen if your alloys are too big for the car and the spacers arent big enough!

i had my left one done 110 it cost stopped making noises but recently it does it on right corners when i accelerate so might be tempted to take it to my garage

Hi Lisa, from your description it sounds like the "CV" joint, to prove it jack the nearside front wheel up, then spin the wheel and have someone turn the steering wheel from lock to lock if it is the CV joint it will make a clunking noise as the wheel is spinning and going from lock to lock, a new cv joint will be around £50 plus about an hours labour to fit, its not a job to undertake yourself unless your a reasonable mechanic so if your garge wants to charge more than £120 phone around for other quotes

sounds like a CV joint on the driveshaft. its not a big job to do.take it to a local reputable garage.
For a 1.1 saxo, the CV joint costs about £40
and for the full driveshaft is about £65. thats just the parts.
Its more time consuming to do the CV joint than replacing the whole driveshaft.
hope this helps
