why does my alarm go off?

why does my alarm keep going off every time i put the key in the ignition, it stops after thirty seconds but when i open the door to get out it goes off again, its a mondeo 95 ghia with infra red locking

Probably the alarm switch in the drivers door. Try opening the door USING THE KEY on the passenger side.
