my suffolk punch float chamber keeps flooding and leaking petrol any ideas?

Also, i found it was because the pressure of fuel going to the carb was too high, (sounds daft i know) however when my fuel valve is turned off, it actually forces some fuel into the carb under pressure, if you turn it on and off more than a couple of times it floods the carb

Yep - there is some dirt in the float chamber needle jet housing.. Take the float bowl off, release the float by pulling the spindle through to reveal the needle jet and clean the drilling that the tapered needle fits into.
