I have never in my life used a weedeater and decided to do this on my own once a friend let me have her ElectraLite 9 weedeater. I had to twist that middle tip of the wire holder back and forth pretty hard for it to open. (what a pain!) but it finally opened up. Now I need to figure out how to put the line in right. Hope this info helps.

Pull straight away from the body of the trimmer. The spool is on clips.
Remember, when replacing the spool to retain tension on the string as you reinstall the spool. Otherwise, it will get knotted up before you use it ;)
