My Whirlpool dishwasher didn't drain and won't run?

I have a Whirlpool series 980 dishwasher.
I ran a cycle normally last night, but today I noticed that the bottom is full of water. The "clean" light is on, but nothing happens when I push any other buttons.
I bailed out all of the water and cleaned out the overfill protector, but still no luck!
The disposal and sink drain are not clogged, but I do have frequent backups with them.
Any ideas?

Thanks!

For Whirlpool DW DU1145XTPB, Quiet Partner II-- When the clean light is blinking and no other front panel controls will work, do the following: push SaniRinse-Heated Dry-SaniRinse-Heated Dry. This will put the unit into diagnostic mode. Then, push Cancel after about 15 seconds. You are no longer locked out. Run the dishwasher normally.

Supposedly, the unit is finding fault with the water temp and it's only answer is to lock you out of the controls so you'll be forced to call for service. It's BS. It's really nothing more than after market income generation. It has been designed to fail. Buy a Fridigaire with mechanical controls on the front panel. Costs less than half. And hey! Let's all get together with these lemons and talk about a class action suit.

Whirlpool ...it could be worse.
Should be delivered from a hearse.
Brand new it's nearly dead.
Less than a year, you'll surely dread ....buying
Whirlpool ...well, it could be worse.

The Aquarius/Whirlpool has a sump that collects water over time (to avoid flooding the kitchen!) ... when it is full, a microswitch tells the drain pump to keep running .... remove the left hand side panel and with a turkey baster (or something similar), remove all the water in the sump .... that should fix it!

The other option is to jam the microswitch ... but if you do that, make sure you check you havent got a leak somewhere on the machine as you will then get a flooded kitchen after all!!
