fridge not working hotpoint ff187e?

i have a hotpoint fridge freezer, it s just over a year old, this week the fridge has stopped working, basically the milk is colder left out of the fridge than put in...the light is on when u open fridge door and the freezer is working fine although has been having water form at the bottom of the freezer which has caused the bottom draw to stick once the water has turned to ice..we have looked at the back and everything seems to look o.k.the fridge freezer makes its usuall noise as if its working fine...can anyone help...please...

Followed the above instructions removing rear panel on freezer etc. to find the rear of freezer covered in ice. Hairdryer for 20 minutes re-assembled and 24 hours later fridge performing as it should.
Thanks to everyone for the advice, saved me a few hundred pounds.

Same problem with my fridge but the screws on the back panel of the freezer are not turning either I am weak or they are frozen?

I have defrosted the freezer as above last night but our fridge is still not working. Our is 6 years old and this is the 6th time we have had to do this!!!

We've had a hotpoint ff187e fridge for six years without any problems. But when a a family member left the freezer boost on for 24 hours + the internal temperatures of freezer and fridge dropped and the alarms went off time after time. Followed the helpful instructions above, dismantled the panels, de-iced the iceburgs inside, removed the black nozzle, emptied the water tray and once reassembled it sprang back to life..24 hours later and its chilling. Thanks to this forum I'm hoping to get a few more years out of the unit. CHEERS

We are having the same problem. This is the second time it's happened. Having consulted with our fridge/freezer engineer he said he thinks due to hot weather and constant use of fridge this has allowed more hot air into the fridge which is then turned into ice and blocks the motor. He is suggesting we do the same thing.

Is it best that we also cut this black rubber as well to be sure! our f/f seems to start and then stop working depending on whether we have on super cool and super freeze!

I have to say that I am not impressed with this (looks like recurring problem). Our f/f freezer is working but not fridge!

Any further suggestions welcome.

Thanks

should the fan in the freeser be turning, my fan does not

Open the freezer door, take out all the drawers, remove the 6 screws in the back panel, take out the back panel and the back panel housing(the bit with the fan in it), get a hairdryer and melt all the ice, unblock the little hole near the bottom in the middle at the back(where it looks like a water channel), for a thorough job turn the freezer round and find where the water channel drains into the white drip tray on-top of the black metal ball, there is a little black rubber spout pointing down into the drip tray- rip it out with pliers. Finally clean the floor under the fridge. All done!

GEORGE, March 2013
Brilliiant forum , undid screws after turning off................in with the hair dryer for 3 minutes . Ice came off in 2 lumps
leaving the air flow to the fridge clear. Phoned Hotpoint who wanted a £160 call out and fix.
Thank you so much so easy

Thanks guys for this forum, My fridge stopped working and my freezer was over freezing. A engineer called out(£15 call out fee), he said that this model fridge/freezer has a common fault where the fridge stops working and only a hotpoint engineer can repair it and it will cost £160. So after reading this forum I emptied the fridge/freezer and turn it off for 24hrs to allow it to defrost. Before I turn it back on I emptied the drip tray at the back. I turn it on and left it for 8hrs to allow it to cool. Now its working fine.

my freezer was saying it was too warm and consantly beeping...thought it would be an expensive repair or a new one. however after reading this and removing the cover inside the freezer i found a block of ice covering nearly the whole heatsink. i have now defrosted and switched back on. still got the flashing lights but i would expect that untill everything gets back to tempreture...thanks guys :D

Ive had this problem this week the freezer was working but found that the fridge was not cool at all, thank god for this forum. I took the tray off at the back of the freezer and found a huge block off ice. My fridge is working like new and I've saved my self a lot of expense.

Hi all,

We purchased our ff187e back in May 2007 bought from a well known high street retailer, its been running ok since then. However yesterday, Monday the 16th I grabbed milk to pour in my cereal and the milk was off! :( and the juice was not chilled. As stated by donna.

OK I was not impressed! Yesterday evening checked my documents and it states we have 5 years guarantee.

So this morning I contacted Hotpoint and they told me that I have 2 options:

1. Pay £109 for engineer to come out and works be guaranteed for 90 days

2. Pay £160 pounds, something like £16 per month started in Sept which will cover me for 1 year parts, labour and callout.

The engineer will be out next monday 23rd!

I informed them that I have a 1 year old baby who is dependant on milk and I aint waiting till next week and payin this is unacceptable! I threatened to goto TRADING STANDARDS and WATCHDOG. As there are complaints going back to 2008 on the web as started by donna(**thank you**)

The advisor, went to their boss and came back with this:

1. £109 to £75
2. £169 to £130

I was not impressed as I can go out purchase a new fridge freezer and said I would not recommend hotpoint - I have put this on my facebook as well.

DISGUSTED!

Our fridge is displaying the same problems you have all encountered - hence my coming to this forum.
Surely, if what you all say is correct, then this is a design fault of the fridge [and maybe the freezer]? And if so, shouldn't the shop be putting things right [yes, I know it's ultimately the manufacturer's problem, but our contract was with the seller - the shop].

I have simmular problem with mine fridge. Doesnt sirculate any cold air into the fridge. I took off the back cover and found ice arround radiator but fan is free. Also found small rubber drain was blocked. Cut this off and turned it on again without defrosting it. Will see tomorrow morning if is working fine. If not I will defrost it and then let U all know. Thank You and hope to have cold beer in my fridge couse We have got WORLD CUP 2010!

Bunio, July 2010
open the freezer and take off the backing. Then just defrost and the fridge should work fine.

kev, February 2010
I to have had this problem it is very irritating as I was having to defrost the freezer every two weeks. What I have worked out is once you have completely defrosted the freezer turn the unit round so you are looking at the back, above the compressor you will find a plastic tray, in the top off the tray there is a little black rubber drain which blocks up very easily due to its poor design if you remove this with a pair off pliers the freezer will work fine no more water on the floor hooray

Mark, July 2009
Thanks for the info on this guys. Massive amount of ice built up out of sight. Fridge is now working fine.

os, August 2008
The problem is the ice in the freezer compartment it will have built up and stopped the fan that cirulates the air up into the fridge. You are going to need to defrost the freezer compartment to get this all working again. Ive had to do the same this week and all is working ok now. The only cause I can work out for the ice build up is over filling the freezer so the air dosnt cirulate.

Neil, May 2008
unplug the appliance and if you remove the back cover inside the freezer you will probley find it is blocked with ice,if you defrost it it will be fine again
