Whats wrong with my Mazda B2500?

I have a 2002 Mazda B2500 non-turbo . When you get to around 2800 rpm it mis-fires and throws smoke out of exhaust. It also has no power and is using around 3 times as much fuel . Any ideas??

Maybe the valve that regulates fuel flow to catalytic converter is sticking.
