Adam,

Any tips on removing the brake band? I have the same problem and removing the band looks like a nightmare!

PS: Plastic housing melts around break and/or distorts component placement and locks saw down.

Yes, I have had the same problem. Even took one back and exchanged it at home depot. Same problem developed. I think it is a poor engineering design. Yep, took me a couple of hours also, both ways. I put my brake back on and still want work. In fact I was just checking it today.

I had the same problem with mine last year. It looks like the coil spring went bad over the winter. I ended up simply removing it and then the saw worked perfectly again. I don't normally advocate disabling safty brakes but I am the only one who use the saw and just make sure I turn off the saw if I need to put it down and leave it unattended. I'm fairly handy with fixing most things and it took me about 2 hours to take apart, remove coil spring and then put back together.
