I have bought a Ford Escort SI. I can hear a loud noise like a flat tyre but they are not, what could it be?

Hi Ashley, it could be the CV joint, jack the front of the car up spin the wheels and at the same time get someone to turn the steering from lock to lock if it is the CV joint then it will sound a clunking noise made worse as the steering is turned you might also find that the rubber boot over the joint has split leaking the grease out which has caused the joint to fail
