If your mower continues to run with the plug disconnected, it indicates SERIOUS overheating and/or desparate need of a de-coke.
Remove cowling and clear out any debris to resolve the cooling. Remove cylinder head and remove all carbon deposits. Do not damage the gasket face or the head or the block.
