Hotpoint WT960 LCD too dim?

Just outwith the warranty period the LCD display went really dim, so dim I have to read it under a towel.
I suspect that this is a common problem with these machines and any help in diagnosing the problem would be appreciated

I have the same model but with the apparently common flickering LCD display. I found a link which confirms wthat I have just found out from Hotpoint. £89.98 call out (part free). They won't let you have the part under their 5 year guarantee for self fitting so we are going to let ours run to till it fails and if still under the 5 year period make a decision then.
