Is the Telewest ISP service like a normal ISP?

I am considering using Telewest as my ISP. I want to know how standard the system is.

Do you use a normal modem or router, or must you use one which Telewest provide?

Does the quality of their service vary depending on the cable infrastructure in your area? (Old Cabling=sometimes poor, New Cabling=never have any trouble.)

Can you use them as an ISP without switching to their phone or TV service? (Just use them as an ISP?)

Telewest is now known as Virgin Media.

You need a cable modem (provided by Virgin Media) but in a non cable area they do have an ADSL service.

I am on their 20 Meg service and been on broadband since 2001 with Telewest and never had a problem. I would think most of their cabling is less than 20 years old.

You can have just the broadband. I do.
