Rev counter cable Breaking?

I have a Jaguar XK120 DHC 1954 the rev counter cable keeps breaking at the engine end. I have checked that the cable turns correctly before connecting to the rev counter and visa versia before connecting to the engine. once connected to both the cable snaps.I am on my 3rd cable Help!!

recolect 1 that had a misaligned drive for cable ,slacken of gbox drive, connect cble ,tighten drive ,go for a spin,repeat process.
