How do I remove my ford ka handbrake handle?

I have a 2004 ford streetka, the handbrake lever is the same as a standard ford Ka. Its really bland and plasticy so I am replacing it with a subtle black and brushed steel one. Only problem is i have no idea how to remove the one that is on there now (standard handle). Someone must know because I have seen other Ka's with replacement handles, and there are loads of replacements on the market. Thanks to all in advance.

It's a very tight fit with jagged barbs to stop it coming off. First, detach the gaiter from the end of the handle by pushing the gaiter down. Warm the handle with a hair drier and then you might have to use a small length of wood to take the blows from a lump hammer! Be sensible but I was very surprised how much I had to hit it. Its going back on with silicon grease inside.
