where does the broken spring fit on my wife's ford fiesta freestyle?

My wife's fiesta has a similar problem to others that i have seen, she can not open the driver's door with the key, I have found the broken sping inside the door but there is nowhere obvious where the spring locates, no pictures in my haynes manual either, can someone who has had the problem before describe the location of the spring for me please ?

Hi Nigel, have had the door latch in the lap of my hand (internal handle cable still attached) but I still can't workout where to fit the spring , if you could draw something I would be eternally grateful my email address is j.r.l@btinternet.com many thanks for your rapid response ! have had to put the car trim back on as my wife needed the car this afternoon, will have another go when I get home from work tomorrow.

Hi John, the spring is from inside the latch assembly without one infront of me its difficult to describe but it holds one of the levers inside the latch up so that the other lever is allowed to move when the door is locked, to get at it you will have to remove the anti-theft guard and then remove the latch assembly, but with this spring off it puts extra strain on the lock (key) assembly and then the lock unit needs replacing, to find out when the guard is off disconnect the linkage from the key assy and see if will turn in both directions, I will have a look in my spares box and see if I can get a picture or a sketch of where the spring should go and I'll mail it to you contact me on nige110162@hotmail.co.uk
