Washing machine: Indesit WD10

This is very recent. I have owned the washing machine for about two years. I have not run the washing machine since the strong burning odor because of fear that it might burst into flames.

I suspect that a sock or small piece of material has become caught up somewhere. Any suggestions of how to check for the cause of this problem?

Beaware my ariston rd200 tumble dryer just burst into flames !! I have had it some time, always cleaned and cared for...........most frightening experience of my life, hubby turned mains off and smothered it.........be careful
