If my mower is burning oil do I have to empty the oil container and cleant it and is it safe as the engine on the top gets very hot ?

White smoke or blue .White smoke indicates water blue smoke is oil .Oil level may be too high in which case take some oil out by undoing sump plug and letting some out or syphoning some off through filler cap until level indicated on dipstick is reached .Lots of oil does not mean better performance , stick to recommended levels as indicated on dip stick .When level is reached it will smoke until excess oil is burned off
