Bmw tops out early?

I own a bmw 3 series 02 plate and I have replaced the engine with a new one the same now it starts beautifuly and ticks over perfect but as i drive down the road it wont reach over approx 40 mph can you help please

Hi Shane, that sounds like the engine ecu is in limp home mode you will need to get it connected to a diagnostic computer and reset the ecu
