lawnmower will not start without priming it alot?

even when my Craftsman 6.75Horse power lawnmower is worm i still have to prime it at least 15 to 20 times to get it started, and sometimes after its running it sounds a little ruff then it dies. So i have to prime a lot more, its a push mower, self propelled.
Thank you,

Of all the searches I've done, the reply is almost always that it's dead gas or a dirty carb. That hasn't been the case with my own Sears 6.75 hp mower. I believe the problem lies in the gasket seal between the Air Cleaner Body and the carb. I say that because I replaced my float bowl with a new one and still couldn't keep my mower running. I also cleaned ever orifice in the aluminum part of the carb.

I can't say for sure it's the gasket seal because I just redid my gasket using gasket maker and am letting it sit til my grass needs cutting again. If my mower runs fine, I'll will post an update here to verify that it is indeed a gasket seal problem.

You have a fuel supply problem. First step - drain the float chamber. It could be as simple as a drop of water in the bottom of the carb. This will partially block the jet and give your symptoms.

If that doesn't solve it, remove the carb and check the fuel flow from the tank. If OK, completely strip & clean the carb. Ensure that all jets are completely clear, particularly if there is eveidence that there was water in the float chamber.
