Mark, I would really appreciate a copy of the manual and how to change the belt as I am having the exact problem as you did. I don't have the manual as I bought the mower second hand also.

You need to cross check the belt tension spring, that the blades are in balance and the belt cover top is fully on Plus the correct belt length

then you should be OK for years

Remember clean it after every use

As previously stated i have reecnetly acquired the stiga vila classic, albeit 2nd hand, and it too kept throwing the mower drive belt. Furthermore it was shredding the 'v-belt' into pieces. I have since spoken to 'belt specialists' and they say the problem is the v-belt itself. With the tensioning pulley forcing the back of the belt it is doing something the belt isnt designed for. SO they have suggested, and i have tried with great success,The 'Gates powerated belt No6858 12.5/13mm x 1475'. It states it is 'stronger-than-steel-reinforcement.For mowers, tractors, snow blowers and appliances'. I am aware it isnt a 'stiga' belt SO PLEASE check that using the above belt wont go against any warranty cover you may have. I have the manuals for the mower and will photocopy them and send them to anyone who has suffered the same problems. It is also illustrates how to change the belts etc.

I ,too, have recently started using a stiga villa classic ride on mower and i also have problems with the drive belt coming free. A real pain. I have noticed that the pulley that keeps the belt 'tight' suffers alot of movement and i can only assume this isn't helping. If anyone has any ideas then throw us a bone please.

Unfortunately it seems that Stiga does not provide much of anything for those users that choose to repair their own machines. Other than the owners manuals that really do not show much. I am not sure as to if they provide a repair manual or not.
