help dyson dc 04 is smoking and not doing things?

Today my dyson dc04 made a horrible grinding noise and smoke came out of the top bit of it. The belt is intact but the brushes arent going round, does this sound like the motor has gone in it?

I have just had the same fault I stripped it down took out the motor and found the fan was turning free on the motor shaft It will not repair new motor between £45to £60 pounde ABout 3 hrs work Along reach terminal driver and 10 pence coin and the motor is out .

It sounds as if your brush has jammed, did it smell of burning rubber when it happened? If you turn it upside down (unplug it first) and take the screws out of the bottom plastic guard around the brush, this will allow you to remove it and inspect for blockages. Usually it is hair and carpet strands.
