How can I fix my craftsman LT 2000 riding mower?

The mower will not start unless you put the blade engage on and off several times. There is a lot of slack in the blade engager. How do I get to this to tighten, since that appears to hinder the starting ability?

There will be an inhibitor switch to prevent starting while blade is engaged. It could be that the switch contacts are dirty. Try spraying with WD40 or switch contact cleaner and make sure the wiring connections are clean and secure.
Also check that the switch is being properly actuated by the mechanism ( often a simple tag on the lever shaft). You can check the wiring from the switch by joining the two wires together. If the engine then cranks, switch is problem. If doing this make sure blade is DISENGAGED!
