Simpson Sirocco 500 clothes dryer just stopped in the middle of drying?

Does it have a fuse or something I could check before I call in a repair person? I have checked the lint filter, and checked the power connections etc.

Scrap the poorly designed dryer and replace it with a German manufactured machine for a well designed and quality electrical components make the initial cost more expensive but the cheaper manufacturers use cheap components that result in over heating as a common fault, to counter this they rely upon the "overload" relay to cut the supply. The German models use an overload relay but it takes a definite fault to occur not just the normal operation. If you wish to dry a single handkerchief the cheaper models are okay

My Simpson was getting very hot and the cut out switch kept stopping the machine..as it was too hot.
I took it down from the wall and until I read your info above
I was going to toss it.
I had been getting prices and was almost ready to fork out for a new one..would have been lovely?
But hey following your advice,
I flipped it over, undid just two little screws and viola
replaced the errant yellow belt into the pulleys and hey it works fine..thanks for your fixitup tip..
Terrific site

when you close the dryer door very hard to push in button to start dryer,it seems the plastic catch on the body of dryer which moves down when door is shut is faulty.
How do I replace?,

gerard, February 2010
Generally a complete stop means the safety fuse has been triggered, due to overheating. You can reset the fuse by pressing the red button labelled safety reset located inside the dryer just under the door handle. If the drum then turns but no air is coming through the vent, it means that the belt linking the drum and the fan is either broken or slipped off the pulleys. Remove the dryer from its attachments e.g. on the wall and place it on the floor where you can access the back of the machine. Remove the dark gray plastic covering from the back of the machine. To do this unscrew the two screws which are on the left lower end of the plastic covering and then slip the covering away from the metal holding tab at the the other end. The yellow/transparent drive belt will either be lying loose or it will have snapped. If it is intact, just carefully replace it so that it is around the two pulleys (in the groove of each pulley) so when one pulley turns it turns the other one by rotating the belt. Then replace the plastic cover by slipping the end under the metal tag on the upper right side of the pulley arrangement and replace and tighten the two screws in their correct holes. Place the dryer back on its wall holder or wherever it was. Obviously if the belt is broken it needs to be replaced

Is there a diagram on replacing drum belt on sirocco 500

wayne, December 2009
Hi, It most likely the belt that drives the drying drum is broken. Is the motor still going but the drum isn't turning? I have just replaced the belt and it is relatively easy.
