My boiler suffers from intermitent running espcialy when showering it seems to stop heating the water and wont fire up for the heating the pilot is alwys lit, it has just been serviced and the lad said all was well after I told him what was going on he said it would be more eficient to replace.... but with what ? and do I realy need to ?

thats the answer for...duh...I haven't a clue whats wrong....wheres my money and the door.....!

if the intermittant running is on dhw demand only, either the inline filter is partially blocked (remove and clean) the dhw heat exchanger is scaled up (most likely problem) or the dhw thermister is faulty (they cost under £10 and fit in minutes)
