How do I change pullcord on sovereign xp40?

I have a Sovereign xp40 mower(briggs & stratton engine), the pull cord has snapped and I'm trying to replace it but when i unbolt plastic casing i can't get into where cord is as it is riveted on.Is there another way of doing this?

You will need to remove the entire cowling from the engine. The recoil unit can then be dis-assembled whilst it is still attached to the cowling.

You CAN buy a replacement recoil unit - you have to drill out the rivets and bolt on the replacement, but you still have to remove the cowling to fit the bolts, so there's not much point.
