Faxes sent (and copies made) have thick vertical lines running down the left side of the paper. Incoming faxes are not affected. Is this a cleaning problem or do I need a repair? Also, I cannot find my manual and it seems you have to log in or become a member of something to get one.

Since no one answered me, I worked a little harder at this. Accessed Brother.com and then chose manuals. (Thought I did this before.) Problem was fixed by cleaning (which I tried unsuccessfully before). The trick was to really get under the white bar when the front cover was lifted. To get under the bar, I had to wrap a thin handkerchief around a toothpick and then dip it in rubbing alcohol. It was hard getting under the bar but it worked!!! Now I have a manual and a working fax!
