My gas primer button will not prime?

My gas primer buttom will not prime for start with three pumps. The jet seems clear. This is a cheap set up from Sears. The primer is built into the air filter assembly and has a very small channel in the back side of the filter assembly that mates up against the carb and somehow primes the gas for start. Any ideas would be great. Right now I have to pull the rope 20+ times to start.

Forget about 3 pumps - mine takes 15 at least. If it defiintely isn't priming at all, there should be a gasket between the air filter backing plate (with the built-in primer) and the carb body. This has a channel cut in it (which makes it almost impossible to make a gasket, you'll have to get the correct one). If the gasket is damaged or missing, it'll never prime.
