the detergent/powder compartment door doesn't always open and cycle finishes with nothing washed. What is the problem?

are you using wash tablets with red bit in the centre as some of them are to big for the detergent dispencer and jam the lid shut.sounds favourite for intermittent fault described.putting tablet on the bottom filter is one option to solve you problem if it is the tablets that are to big.hope this helps!

The problem Nikki is the electric solenoid which opens the door when the dishwasher tells it to. Either it has failed or less likely, the wiring to it which is in the door of the machine. Solenoids cost around £20, but the labour charge varies enormously.
