Bearing Removal Problem?

Hi

I've got a Hotpoint WMA46, which has knackered bearings, while following a post on here about changing the bearings, i've come across a problem, i cannot hammer out the old bearings, as they are completely screwed, ie only the outer collar of the bearing's remain, all the rest of the bearing rings has fallen apart.

I think that i can only get them removed professionally now. i've tried using a hammer + screwdriver, hammer + chizel, and not had any luck at all.

Any help or idea's would be nice.

Regards

hi,done plenty of these before, soak the shells with a lubricant leave for an hour and use somthing like an old socket extension big enough to fit round the inner of the shell.dont be afraid to batter it like hell with a heavy club hammer,i usually find if you lay the machine on its front with somthing underneath to cushion it the front shell is easier to remove and on its back for the rear shell...hope this helps...nick

Hi

Yea the drum shaft is ok, i've tried them for over 2hr, and not even moved them, should i be hammering them from the outside of the drum, or the inner side?

The outer casing of the bearing has to be hammered out using items you describe.that is why lots of repairers use tubs with fitted bearings because they are a pain.Is the drum shaft ok as putting a worn one back into a new set of bearings could reduce its life considerably!
