HOW can I fix my riding mower?

The belt on the deck of my lawn mower broke. Replaced it myself with the correct 1 from the model number on my mower. Start up my mower, engage the deck ,the belt is running, when I go to mow grass it acts like it dosen't have the power it should on level ground and dosen't really cut but, when i go up a hill forwards or backwards the power to the deck picks up and it cuts normally. Also I noticed when i turned the mower left sharp or right sharp it would pick up power also. The mower runs great without the deck no problems. can you help? thanks

The belt is slack. When you tilt the mower (like on a hill) the deck 'falls' down the incline and tightens the belt. 1 or 2 inches is all the movement it needs.

If a manual (belt-tightener) type blade clutch, you need to adjust the engagement lever.

If blade clutch is electric, the belt tension will be adjustable - method depends on model and date of manufacture.
