What is wrong with my central locking on my Mk3 Golf?

None of the doors lock or unlock when turning the key on the drivers door. There is a pneumatic noise when locking and unlocking the doors.
What could be wrong?

Sounds like a leak in the central locking vacuum system and as it's all the doors probably very close to the central locking pump!
