Escort offside wheel rattle?

Hi...little issue with my wifes '97 escort. When pulling away the offside wheel makes a creaking noise. Also, when driving over uneven surfaces, the wheel rattles and makes knocking noises.

Any ideas what this could be and what to do to fix.

Don't forget the other possibility..escorts of that age ...front springs break with monotonous regularity, feel for the spring & run ure hand up around it to make sure.

no noticeable tyre wear....have been told it's a c.v joint. is this possible? and how hard is it to fix

any uneven tyre wear?sounds like lower ball jointthis shows up with the inside tread of the tyre wearing at an accelerated rate and the tread feels diferent when hand rubs accros tread towards inside as compared with towards outside.feathered.
