Nissan Micra Cam Chain stretch 1995 K12?

Ive only done 29K miles and have a sensor light on. Went to Dealers to see what the fault is. They say the Cam Chain appears stretched they turned the sensor off. It came straight back on when i drove away.To replace the chain they say it will cost £1400. This is a lot of money to spend on a 3 year old car.what will happen if i just leave the sensor on until i can save enough money to have it done.Is it likely to break down or just run rough ?. I have 4 Nissans and this is the worse car ive ever had.

I am in the process of doing one of these at the Moment. Only done 25,000 miles,
What no one has mentioned that the Diameter of the Timing Sprockets could also be a factor in this, as the smaller they the more strain is put on the chain and there are less teeth on the sprockets so wear will be more.

I do not have any noise coming from the chain. But the engine does appear to be missing a beat. could this be why the engine light is on. The nissan dealer serviced the car, and plugged the machine in to test the fault. They say it maybe the chain.I'll have a second opinion anyway. Thanks paul m

cant speak for this one but the old nissan chains used to cut through the timing chest like a chainsaw when they went slack.but these were a result of oil pressure failure or tensioner failure.difficult to believe a motor with this low a milage needs a chain.second opinion definatly required.anyway the noise of the chain cutting its chest out was unmistakeable.u coudnt ignore it when it happend .and noise u did not mention.
