why does this happen, my coolant is filled in at proper level. this is the first time this has happened. is this coz of overheating ...

Probably the radiator core has given up the ghost - its not caused by overheating as any excess water would be expelled from the radiator expansion bottle. Its best to have a really close look at the rad - look for crusty coloured deposits and I'm sure you'll find the leak. Just keep the coolant level topped up in the mean time!
